OR...THE JOURNEY OF MY LIFE IN DRAWING AND PAINTING. MURALS TO GRAPHIC ART, FINE ART AND DESIGN.
For over twenty years as a journeyman artist, I specialized in surfaces, from floors to walls and ceilings, that included custom techniques of decorative painting, plastering, historic restoration, design and execution of commercial and residential decor. My colleagues and I taught numerous techniques, at conventions, private classes, tutoring and even produced a television pilot. Since returning to a more manageable scale of work many of the techniques I used then are applicable to canvases, boards, paper and home decor (in a smaller scale). See below: Drawing & Painting for current work.
INTERIORS
Consider the Interior a work of art; not just a Practical Environment.
"I wish to sing of my interior visions with the naive candour of a child." -Claude Debussy
Paint is not the only element in a dynamic interior, but it helps. Have you ever asked yourself why you feel so uncomfortable in a friend's house? Color may have a lot to do with setting the tone in a space; closing it in or opening it up. That pertains to your mood in your own environment, as well. Color has been proven to have a REAL effect on our psyches. Tomato red will motivate men, and if you want to pull a power trip on an subordinate, wear navy blue to gain trust and yellow to fire them.
Let's start at the top: THE CEILING
A round dining room with a flat ceiling is an ideal palate for an elegant pattern. The principle colors in the wall and the fabric of the drapes (to be installed at a later date) are recreated in this hand painted ornament.
"Paint" isn't always "paint." The inset ceiling between beams is Venetian Plaster; a tinted marble plaster mix applied like drywall mud. It offers a soft glow with depth and bounces the limited light in the room.
The painting in this nursery takes in to account that the infant living in the room spends most of its time looking up. This leaves ample space for furniture on the walls without losing the art.
Paint is not the only way to use color in the design scheme. It just happens to be accessible, not as permanent as masonry. Paint can change an environment, showcase artwork, lighten or darken a space and is an affordable option for most consumers.
And then there are...THE WALLS
Whether it is a commercial project or residential space, color can make the difference between "space" and an "experience."
And even THE FLOOR...
And when you put it all together it becomes: AN ENVIRONMENT
Environments are just what that sounds like. From rooms to entire homes there is a consistent theme, which is accomplished by creating a whole space, from paint to sculpted elements, custom furniture, upholstery window treatments and more.

There are arguably five constant elements in art.
They are line, shape, color, form and value. Add in to the mix composition and mass or volume, with a heap of passion and there you have an artist. Whether the medium is sketching, painting, flower arranging or jewelry making, the elements are essential and constant.
